VR Walk, Flanders Nature Trails
Hiking trails you can walk before lacing up your boots: canals, forests, heathland and lakes in immersive 360°.
Overview
Wandelsport Vlaanderen promotes hiking routes through the natural areas of Flanders. To make people want to explore them, the association asked us for a 360° video that lets viewers walk the trails themselves, on YouTube, on a smartphone or in a VR headset.
The challenge
Convey the scale and calm of the landscapes in a format where the viewer chooses where to look: no frame to hide behind, every direction has to be clean, level and beautiful, on foot as well as in the air.
The solution
We captured the trails in 360° video along the paths, and added aerial 360° shots by drone to reveal the lakes and forests from above. In post-production the footage was stitched, levelled and stabilised for a comfortable experience, then edited and graded in Premiere Pro and After Effects: 360°-aware titles, smooth transitions between the walks and the flights, and a branded compass with the Wandelsport Vlaanderen logo patched into the zenith and nadir. The final film was exported in 4K with spatial metadata, ready for YouTube 360, mobile and VR headsets.
